Freaky Forces + Elusive Energies

Grades 1st To 3rd

May the forces of physics be with you! From the magic of magnetism to the science of sound, our physicists-in-training explore a world filled with energies and forces! Exciting projects such as lava lamps, clay boats, catapults and color spinners allow children to touch, feel, and see the complex concepts that are the building blocks of physics. The energy (potential and kinetic!) in the class is contagious as kids are introduced to intriguing topics ranging from buoyancy and displacement to trajectories and projectile motion. And to continue the inspirational learning beyond class, kids keep all of their creations for further exploration at home!

Additional topics include:
• Newton’s Laws
• Tension
• Density
• Energy transfer
• Simple machines
• Light / optics

Phenomenal Physics

Grades 4th To 8th

In this exciting branch of the natural sciences we explore matter and its motion and behavior through space and time. From straightforward laws of motion to the complex theory of relativity, our young physicists investigate theories that govern our very existence in this physical world we live in. With projects ranging from the construction of a Newton’s Cradle and the assembly of a spectroscope to a very dynamic smoke vortex demonstration, kids analyze the scientific principles of energy, optics, fluid dynamics and more in order to better understand the fundamental physics behind their creations. And let’s not forget about the fascinating Twin Paradox – where students learn that time stands still when traveling at the speed of light!

Additional topics include:
• Elastic vs. inelastic collisions
• Conservation of energy
• Velocity and acceleration
• Sound waves
• Magnetism
