Coding + Game Development

For Students Entering 5th – 7th Grade, Fall 2018

Get ready for a triple play of excitement as campers explore three different coding languages! On day one of camp, Launch’s fledgling programmers use MIT’s Scratch 2.0 language to create their own unique games and animations while learning logic and mathematical concepts such as Cartesian (x,y) coordinates, variables, and iterative processes. On day two campers code phone apps using MIT’s App Inventor programming tool, software that introduces kids to graphical user interface design (GUI), placement of buttons and text, and strategic use of multiple screens. On day three, campers are introduced to the text-based programming language called Python and tackle techniques such as lists, if statements and loops while refining their problem solving and logical reasoning skills. During the final two days of camp each child chooses one of the three coding languages and develops projects such as platform games, animations, text based adventures, and Whack a Mole! No previous programming experience is required.
