Launch Summer Camps

We're Serious about Fun in the Summer:
Kids Create, Play and Learn at Launch Camps!

Launch Math Achievement Centers offer exciting and educational one-week summer camps on the Upper West Side of Manhattan for kids ages 6 to 12 years old. Children at Launch's exciting specialty summer camps build advanced robots, launch high-flying rockets, design video games, create visual animations, tinker with electronics – and that is just the very beginning! All campers get to keep their projects so that the fun continues at home!

Launch Summer Camps also offer children the opportunity to stretch their legs and enjoy the outdoors. Half of each day is spent in Central Park where campers engage in science-based activities designed for the outdoors, play sports, take part in organized adventures such as scavenger hunts, and relax while eating lunch on a park bench. We even find time for field trips to places such as the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History!

Q: When does camp start and end?

A: Camp starts at 9:00 am each day; children may be dropped off as early as 8:45 am. Camp ends at 3:30 pm and late pickup options are available. Back to top.

Q: What is the late pickup option?

A: The late pickup option is our flagship Launch Learning math instructional program. The program starts shortly after camp ends at 3:30 pm and continues until 5:00 pm (at which point the child must be picked-up).

Launch Learning is a unique combination of one-on-one time with a teacher, group activities, computer-based instruction, and hands-on math learning tools - all with a big blast of fun! Back to top.

Q: Do you offer busing?

A: Unfortunately, we do not offer transportation services to/from camp at this time. Back to top.

Q: Can my child participate in the same camp twice?

A: We offer three different camp themes that repeat throughout the summer (Robotics, Rocket Science, and Video Game Programming/Electronics). Therefore, we recommend that children engage in all three of our camps. Enrolling in the same camp theme more than once is not recommended as projects may be repeated. Back to top.

Q: My child is five but going into 1st grade, which age group does he/she fall into? My child is eight but going into 4th grade, which age group does he/she fall into?

A: Generally, the 6-8 age group is for campers going into 1st through 3rd grades while the 9-12 age group is for campers going into 4th through 7th grades. A five year old going into 1st grade should sign up for the 6-8 camps while an 8 year old going into 4th grade should sign up for the 9-12 camps. Back to top.

Q: What happens in a typical camp day?

A: Launch camps engage children mentally as well as physically. Half of each day is spent indoors where campers build projects and learn the science and math behind those projects. The other half of each day is spent outdoors in Central Park (see below).  Back to top

Q: What do you do outdoors?

A: Most of our outdoor activities take place in Central Park. On one day campers may find themselves tossing their balsa wood airplanes in a field in the park or tracking down hidden treasures with hand-held GPS devices. On other days they may be chasing counselors in a heated game of Capture the Flag!  We offer a nice mix of science and sports with our park experience. Back to top.

Q: What are the lunch options for my child?

A: We do not provide food for our campers. Children may bring a bagged lunch that we will keep cool.  Alternatively, campers always have the option to be escorted to purchase food from the local deli and/or pizza parlor (in this case, please provide your child with money for lunch). Back to top.

Q: What do you do if it rains?

A: We have various rainy-day replacements for outdoor activities. Our most popular option is a visit to the Museum of Natural History which is one block away from Launch. There we engage the children in pre-designed activities that relate to the science in the museum, watch IMAX movies, or visit the special exhibits.  Other rainy day options include the puppet theater in central park (younger children), the local movie theater, as well as group activities in the center. Back to top.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

A: If a cancellation is requested at least one month before your child’s camp start date, you will receive a refund of all camp fees (less a $75 non-refundable processing fee). Please make all cancellation requests via email to info@launchmath.com. Unfortunately we are unable to offer refunds requested within one month of a camp start date. Back to top.

Q: Do you offer scholarships?

A: We have reserved a limited number of camp slots for need-based partial scholarships. Please email scholarships@launchmath.com for more details. Applications submitted by April 30th will receive a reply by May 15th. Applications submitted after April 30th will be reviewed on a rolling basis while scholarships remain available. Back to top.
