For Campers Entering 2nd – 4th Grade, Fall 2021

Choose your mission! Tackle engineering challenges, solve coding conundrums, or reveal mathematical wonders! Embark on these exciting missions with Launch’s three new online programs for rising 2nd-4th grade campers. Our established in-center camps have been reconfigured to offer kids an interactive experience in today’s virtual world. Each of the following camps is a weeklong half-day program that offers live, instructor guided activities with no more than 4 children in each online group. Launch also provides pre-recorded videos and printable guides for all of our projects so your child can enjoy the camp offline or at a later time!

Mission STEM: Challenge
Let your child’s imagination run wild at Launch’s Mission STEM: Challenge camp where kids explore the world of science and engineering! We first prepare for the mission by gathering everyday household items that are needed to build our projects. Then the fun and learning really begins! From a speedy miniature zipline to potential/kinetic energy catapults, campers engage with hands-on activities that are designed to inspire! Add in a daily dose of scientific demonstrations, virtual field trips, and team-based gaming and we have a variety of science and engineering concepts that are sure to excite the mind!

These materials are required for the camp projects and are not provided by Launch.

Mission STEM: Code
Bring on the video game designers and animators! Launch’s Mission STEM: Code camp utilizes MIT’s Scratch 3.0 computer language to explore systematic coding concepts such as timing, event handling and sequencing so that campers can make (and play!) various games and animations. With creativity always at the forefront of each lesson, kids take it to the next level by adding enemies and power-ups to make their games competition ready!

No previous coding experience is required. Campers must have a computer in order to code (not a tablet). It is recommended but not required that campers use one computer to code and another device (tablet, computer) to participate in the Zoom class at the same time.

Mission STEM: Compute
The first of its kind at Launch for this age group, Mission STEM: Compute offers kids an exciting opportunity to explore the world of mathematics in a virtual camp environment. Wondering how a 2D net can form a 3D six-sided die? Curious how that six-sided die can test your luck in a game featuring probability? That’s just the start! From math riddles to logic games, and from math-inspired art to perplexing number puzzles, this camp releases the inner compute(r) in every child!

The camp is designed for children of all skill levels. These materials are required for the camp projects and are not provided by Launch.
