Wacky World of Aircraft

Wacky World of Aircraft

For Campers Entering 2nd – 4th Grade, Fall 2019

It’s time to taxi for the takeoff of Launch’s Wacky World of Aircraft camp! The adventure begins with a steep climb to cruising altitude as our aspiring pilots learn the fundamentals of unpowered, subsonic, and supersonic flight. There are awesome sights along the way as campers view bizarre plane designs such as forward swept wings and dual fuselages, but the journey hits turbulence when the group is presented with challenging aeronautics problems to solve! Campers earn their wings building their own aircraft ranging from paper airplanes to balsa models. This wacky week would not be complete without a study of VTOL (Vertical Take-Off & Landing vehicles) and remotely operated aircraft. Our pilots wrap up the voyage by assembling their own rubberband powered helicopters and experimenting with hand sensing drones!

Additional Topics Include: Forces of Flight, Thermals, Propulsion, Pressurized Cabins, Airfoil Design, Vortices, Hovering, Autorotation, Shock Wave, Mach Number, Sensors, Control Systems
