Mission STEM: Advanced Scratch, Python

For Campers Entering 5th – 7th Grade, Fall 2021

Calling all coders! Join the Launch team online for exciting coding camps as we encourage our young programmers to test the upper limits of logic and creativity. Both virtual camps are weeklong half-day programs that offer live, instructor guided activities with a maximum of 4 children in a group. Launch also provides pre-recorded videos and printable guides for all of our projects so your child can enjoy the camp offline or at a later time!

Mission STEM: Advanced Scratch /   Mission STEM: Python
Grab a fistful of tokens as we dive into the multi-step process of game development – virtually! Whether it’s Scratch 3.0 or Python as the programming language of choice, campers go behind the scenes to learn what it takes to design, build, and test a game. Variables, conditional statements, coordinate axes, and other logic and mathematical concepts are the tools within the coding languages that our budding programmers use to develop their games. Along the way campers define their games’ mechanics, explore the artistic side of game creation, consider player engagement, and plan out various levels and point systems. All in preparation for the final release day!

Previous experience coding with Scratch or similar highly recommended. Campers must have a computer in order to code (not a tablet). It is recommended but not required that campers use one computer to code and another device (tablet, computer) to participate in the Zoom class at the same time. Python camp requires a free download of Python 3 found at: https://www.python.org/downloads/.
