Nontraditional Education Earning the Spotlight

It was exciting to read the recent NY Times Article that discussed the Education Department’s movement towards support of nontraditional education. The Education Department will allow students to use federal grants and loans towards programs such as coding bootcamps! For anyone that knows the team here at Launch we are thrilled to see the programs that we love teaching receiving government support (and of course we hope to see accountability designed into the programs). Some of the STEM programs at Launch fall right into this bucket of ‘nontraditional’ education for children where we focus on things like coding, rocket science or engineering.

Computer Science Announcement

Mayor De Blasio’s announcement of requiring all New York City’s public schools to offer computer science within the next 10 years is fantastic news. At Launch, we are committed to getting children excited about learning STEM at a young age. It is wonderful to see the city of New York get behind the importance of this.

This may be a weird question, but have you ever thought that the words you use or the language you speak in may affect your happiness? A group of researchers just published a paper in PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Science of the United States of America) Journal.

Orion

On Friday December 5, 2014, NASA Orion launched atop a Delta IV Heavy rocket from Cape Canaveral on its very first test flight. This is great news because Orion is the first NASA made spacecraft to be launched since the retirement of the space shuttle program in 2011.
