The Days of the Year

2015 is about to come to a close. It went by fast, didn’t it? With only 30 days left this year – ask your children if they know why there are 365 days in the year. Let us help to break down the answer for you.
The Earth takes approximately 365.25 days to go alllllllllllll the way around the Sun. What about those other .25 days though? This is where “leap years” come into play. (Lets use Math basics to help understand this.) Every 4 years, we have what is called a leap year where a whole other day is added to the calendar. This 1 extra day makes up for the 4 missing quarters that we missed.
Ask your child: The total of 4 quarters of a day equates to how many total days?
Answer: 1 full day
This is just like money. Take 4 quarters out and place them on the table. 4 quarters makes up how many dollars. It’s the same thing in years!
Can you think of any other scenarios with quarters?
