Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When does the virtual camp day start and end?
K+1st Grade Camps
A: The live virtual camp sessions start at 9:30 am each day. It is recommended that children arrive in the Zoom waiting room between 9:25 am and 9:30 am. The live sessions for K+1st grade virtual camps end at 10:30 am. The pre-recorded videos, printable guides, and bonus content provide the option to extend the day beyond 10:30 am with adult supervision.

2nd-4th & 5th-7th Grade Camps
A: The live virtual camp sessions start at 9:30 am each day. It is recommended that children arrive in the Zoom waiting room between 9:25 am and 9:30 am. The live sessions for 2nd-4th and 5th-7th grade virtual camps end at 12:00 pm. The pre-recorded videos, printable guides, and bonus content provide the option to extend the day beyond 12:00 pm with adult supervision.

Q: Does my child need to be on the computer for the entire virtual camp day?
K+1st Grade Camps
A: No. The hour long live session includes a 50 min instructor lead project build with an additional 10 minutes of collaborative activities. Your child can log off after their project is complete. We also offer pre-recorded videos and printable guides for every project so you and your camper can complete activities offline at your own pace.

2nd-4th & 5th-7th Grade Camps
A: No. The 2.5 hour long live session includes an hour of instructor lead project building with the additional time used for physical activities and a collection of STEM-based challenges and collaborative games. There is time for snack and a break about halfway through the session, and if screen time is a concern your child can sign-off after their project is complete. We also offer pre-recorded videos and printable guides for every project so you and your camper can complete activities offline at your own pace.

Q: My child has a friend attending camp the same week. Will they be in the same group?
A: Generally, the groups are assigned randomly. However, if you have a special request regarding the pairing of kids you must email us at info@launchmath.com as soon as possible after registration and we will do our best to accommodate (please note that submitting a request does not guarantee a child’s placement).
Q: Can my child participate in the same camp twice?
K+1st & 2nd-4th Grade Camps
A: We offer three different camp themes for each grade group that repeat throughout the summer. Children may participate in all three of the camps in any order, however enrolling in the same camp theme more than once is not recommended for the K+1st and 2nd-4th grade groups (projects are repeated).

5th-7th Grade Camps
A: We offer two different camp themes for the 5th-7th grade group that repeat throughout the summer. Children may participate in both of the camps in any order. While we normally do not recommend enrolling in the same camp theme more than once, the 5th-7th camp curriculum is more flexible. If you’re interested in having your child attend more than two weeks of camp and repeat themes, please contact Launch (info@launchmath.com) to discuss options.

Q: Which camp group is most appropriate for my child?
A: Your child’s placement is determined by the grade which they will be entering in the fall of 2020. EXAMPLE: If your child is currently in 4th grade and will be entering 5th grade next fall they should join one of our 5th-7th grade camps. We understand in some cases private and public school calendars may differ. If you are unsure of which group your child should join please contact Launch (info@launchmath.com) for help determining the proper placement before registering.
Q: How old does my child need to be to attend camp?
A: Children who want to join us for our summer camps must have turned 4 years old no later than 12/31/19 (in other words, turning 5 years old in 2020). If you have questions or concerns, please contact Launch (info@launchmath.com) for help determining your child’s eligibility before registering.
Q: What is the instructor-to-camper ratio?
A: There are at most four campers per Launch Instructor.
Q: What happens in a typical day at Camp?

For additional information please refer to the Sample Virtual Camp Day and Camp Descriptions found on the Summer Camps page of our website.

Q: Are materials required for virtual camp?
A: Yes. Launch’s virtual coding camps require a computer and we recommend, but do not require, a second device to view the Zoom meeting (tablet or computer). Launch’s virtual science, engineering, and math camps have a list of required materials that your child needs to have on-hand in order to fully participate in the programs. The materials are common household items or materials easily purchased at a nearby store. You can find the complete list of materials for K+1st grade camps HERE and the complete list for 2nd-4th grade camps HERE. Launch does not provide any materials for virtual camps but we are happy to provide helpful and creative solutions if you are unable to locate any of the required items. Just email us at info@launchmath.com for assistance.
Q: Do I need to download or purchase any software for Launch camp?
A: You do not need to purchase any software for Launch camp. All of our virtual camps use free online platforms and require access to the internet and a device to view the Zoom sessions. Python camps require a free download of Python 3 found at: https://www.python.org/downloads/. Please note that for virtual coding camps it is required that your child use a laptop or desktop computer (a second device is recommended to view the Zoom session while they code along).
Q: Is there a snack time?
K+1st Grade Camps
A: No, the K+1st grade virtual camps are 1 hour in duration therefore there is no time for a snack break. However, campers are welcome to snack while they participate in the program.

2nd-4th & 5th-7th Grade Camps
A: Yes, there is a short break for a snack but campers are also welcome to snack while they participate in the program.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: Launch offers flexibility when your child’s availability to join us hits a snag:

The Flexibility To Switch
Your child can no longer attend camp for the week that you purchased? Launch allows campers one opportunity to switch camp weeks up to 14 days prior to the start of a session (subject to availability). Within 14 days of the start of a session there is a $15 per camp fee to switch.

If A Switch Isn’t The Fix … Canceling Is An Option
Canceling up to 48 hours prior to the start of a session is allowed with a processing fee of $15. The full price of camp is non-refundable for cancellations within 48 hours of the start of the session.

All requests to switch or cancel camps must be sent via email to cancel@launchmath.com. Please include your name, your child’s name, the camps affected and your reason for the change.

Q: Do you offer sibling, or any other discounts?
A: Yes! In addition to our competitive pricing we offer substantial savings on every camp week enrollment after your first, providing discounts for siblings and all other multi-camp purchases. Please refer to our pricing and discount charts on the Summer Camps page on the website.
Q: If two of my children are in the same virtual camp grade grouping, as a family do I need to pay for two camp seats?
A: Yes. Launch virtual camps offer an unparalleled 4-to-1 camper-to-instructor ratio. Therefore, every child participating in the program (asking questions, requiring instructor attention, etc.) counts towards the 4 children in that group. The policy is “1 child, 1 seat” for Launch virtual camps. Also, please note that for any of the science, engineering, or math camps one device is sufficient for multiple children to view the program. However for coding camps, each child will need their own computer to participate as they will each code on their own.
Q: What should I do if I have already registered for Launch’s onsite summer camps?
A: You have options! If you have already registered for our onsite camps you can apply any previously made payments towards our virtual camps and we will refund the difference in price, if any. If you are not interested in virtual camps then you can choose to keep a credit on your account for future enrollments with Launch, or you can request a refund. Not sure if virtual camps will work for your child? You can try one risk free. Delay your decision until the start of camp and if after the first day you decide it’s not the right fit, let us know by emailing info@launchmath.com before the start of the second day of camp and we will convert your payments to a credit or process a refund at that time.
